ASPECTS TO CONSIDER

Airfare and Baggage You will be expected to pay the expenses for round-trip air travel and baggage. In rare cases a person who comes for an approved internship may receive assistance for airfare.

Computer
We encourage you to bring your own computer if you have need of one while you are here. We have the privilege of twenty-four hour Internet connection at the ADRA headquarters, which is to be used according to ADRA Tanzania policy.

Dress and Conduct
ADRA Tanzania expects any employee, volunteer or intern to dress modestly. Conservative dress is appreciated by the people of Tanzania and gains the respect for the person. If you have any questions they can be discussed individually.

Immunizations and Malaria
Before you travel you must receive immunization for yellow fever, as well as a health card stating you have received this. However, you may also wish to get immunized against typhoid, meningitis, and hepatitis A. It is possible to take malaria medicine to reduce your chances of getting the disease. Mosquito bed nets are provided though, and if you show symptoms of malaria you can get treated locally.

Insurance
Once you have followed the proper application procedure and you are approved to come to Tanzania, health, life and limited property insurance will be purchased through AVS(Adventist Volunteer Services) and the charges will be sent to ADRA Tanzania.

Job Description
Each person will be given a clear job description before coming. This description may be discussed and amended if complications arise so that we can find the best way to work with each other.

Land Transportation
As much as possible, you will be assisted with road transportation for doing your work. Vehicles, however, are shared among several people, so you may need to use local transportation or carpool.

Lodging
Free lodging will be provided. If you are staying at the ADRA Tanzania compound there are flush toilets and hot water. Twenty-four hour security is provided through watchmen and a high stone fence encloses the compound.

Meals
In most cases you will be responsible for your own meals. Arusha is located only fifteen minutes from the ADRA headquarters and transportation can be arranged for you to purchase needed supplies. You will be able to find almost everything you could at home at Shop Rite, though if you want to experience culture and the opportunity to bargain, there is an open market that operates every day which provides fresh fruit, vegetables, spices, and other local delights. If you spend more time in Arusha you will be able to find many stores that might bring you discounts on that important item you are looking for.

Participation in Religious Activities
We choose to recruit or accept those who have a b personal Christian experience. When a person comes to ADRA Tanzania they are expected to participate in worship services and attend church as much as possible. We also encourage them to lead out in ministry in a way that they are comfortable with.

Personal Expectations
Before you arrive ADRA Tanzania asks that you send a one page letter describing what you hope to accomplish during your time with us. This helps us to better understand you and to tailor your work to fit your expectations.

References
ADRA requests references from a number of people: former employers, teachers, pastors, or others who know you well. We believe it is important for you and ADRA that we understand each other before we begin working together. You may also ask us for a reference from former volunteers or interns if you would like to know what to anticipate.

Stipend
For individuals who come to work with ADRA Tanzania a stipend of $150 per month will be given. This is to cover food costs and incidentals.

Travel and Entertainment
Tanzania is a beautiful country with plenty of things to do: mountains, game parks, the ocean and much more. There will be times when you will get opportunities to explore. We encourage you to plan with ADRA Tanzania the dates when you would like to discover more of Tanzania. Costs associated with your travel will be your own.

Visa
You will need to purchase a visitor's visa for Tanzania that is good for up to three months. If your stay is longer, a work permit will be required. Costs of the visa will depend on your nationality, but should be no more than $50. The visa can be purchased at the border or airport entering the country, or prior to your journey by submitting your application and passport to the Tanzanian embassy in your country.
