Bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north and Zambia and Mozambique to the south, Tanzania is composed of 26 separate regions and over 130 ethnic groups. Currently ADRA is active in four regions. With a mix of dry and dusty deserts, tropical wetlands, mountains and lakes the country has much to offer.

Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa at 5,895m, is a well-known tourist attraction, as well as prominent national game parks such as the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. A wide variety of wildlife and plants can be found, even outside of the game parks. On the east coast lies the Indian Ocean and other popular vacation locations like Zanzibar and Mombasa.

Agriculture provides the primary means of income, though much of the land is uncultivated due to terrain and climate conditions. From March to May, Tanzania experiences rain almost every day. Aside from that, and a short rainy season from November to January with less precipitation, the land receives only occasional rain, causing crops, animals and people to suffer from lack of fresh water.
